First Fruits of the Season

Our strawberries are getting ripe! We've now picked a couple baskets full of the beautiful red berries. Yesterday I took some to work, they were a hot commodity. Too bad no one had anything worth trading for. Today we made 2 batches of freezer jam and froze a bag of crushed berries to make jam later in the year. We also made scones and topped them with strawberries and whipping cream. What a yummy treat! My fingers are stained a lovely shade of pink in preparation for tomorrows harvest. Tomorrow's treat: strawberry pie!

What did I do with my scan card? I would have taken pictures of my cute berry pickers and jam makers but couldn't find it anywhere. Note to self: find card or buy a new one before trip to Utah!

Sheesh, I am so jealus of your huge strawberry crop! We just get a couple everyday. I am hoping as summer progresses that we will atleast get enough for some shortcake!

Sounds delicious! I'm excited for your great harvest!

We have strawberries too - most of them not so big or pretty as yours but morning glory is running rampant in our rows so we have mostly given up harvesting them. Well, morning glory and a wedding we are preparing for keeps us out of the field. Mom P.S. I need to make some jam - maybe I'll have to make myself go pick tomorrow morning.

I just typed Laurie a note and had to go help a little boy back to bed! Usually he does pretty good, but tonight, apparently he was having "bad dreams" within only a few minutes of being in bed! Anyway, I think we are in good shape now.

I can tell you are truly enjoying your strawberry harvest and rightfully so! All that hard work has paid off! Like your co-workers, I don't have much to offer in the way of a trade for yummy strawberries, unless you are interested in small green tomatoes or even smaller peppers?

It sounds like your are an amazing cook too, Heather! What tips do you have for "fitting everything" into your day? Let me know when you have a chance! Love, Jennifer

Erin- I was hoping we'd have strawberries, will we have a fruit dip?

Anna-last year we got hardly any strawberries, but this year looks like it is going to be great!

Mom- we have one huge patch of berries, too wide to really pick the inside, Rick's been replanting them into neater rows. Weeds and strawberries seem to go together

Jennifer-I'll have to post about my crazy life, trying to keep up with things. I wish I was neater and more organized, but I keep trying.

Wend-the scones were a mix I had on hand, it ended up being a great way to use it up.

Strawberries are my FAVORITE fruit! My hubby planted some but unfortunately, they won't harvest enough to satisfy my flat-a-week habit. :-)

How wonderful for you!

Yum! I also love strawberries. I'm either picking some tomororw (at U-pick) or buying some at the store.

I have a few plants in the backyard. Dumb squirrels keep eating them :(

You are so lucky!
